State Advisory Panel on Special Education for the District of Columbia

The Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA) requires that every state establish and maintain a State Advisory Panel on the education of children with disabilities. Following this piece of legislation, the Mayor authorized the establishment of the State Advisory Panel on Special Education for the District of Columbia.

The State Advisory Panel provides policy guidance on special education and related services for children with disabilities. By effectively adhering to the specific responsibilities mandated in IDEA and responding to the specific needs of the District of Columbia, the State Advisory Panel is a powerful tool for improving the educational outcomes for children and youth with disabilities.

The OSSE provides this website for Special Education Advisory Panel members to share information among themselves and to inform the public on the work of the Panel. To learn more about the Panel, select from the topics below.
